The Western Way is a long distance walking route which runs from Oughterard in Co. Galway, through Connemara and Mayo, to finish on the Mayo / Sligo border near Bunnyconnellan, a distance of 235 kilometres. This guidebook deals with the southern part of the route from Oughterard in Co. Galway to Westport in Co. Mayo. This part of the route is 101 kilometres ( 63 miles) in length and ascends 1800 metres.
